Registered Name: Grady Judd Call Name: Darcy Birth Date: November 11, xxxx Color: Red Brindle Pedigree: (Joe Hearns--Kiss The Bride) Darcy is a handsome 4-yr old red brindle boy who is currently participating in the Greyhound Advancement Center's greyhound and inmate training program at Hardee Correctional Institution. Darcy's personality can be described as curious and playful. He loves people and has adapted well to life away from the kennel. His inmate trainers say that Darcy is a fun, happy dog who seeks out the attention of everyone who passes by. They also say that "playfulness is his middle name if you have a squeaky toy at hand." Darcy has excellent leash manners and is the kind of dog you can sport in public. Darcy enjoys jogging, walking, or relaxing right beside you. Darcy is smart and attentive,which transcends into excellent training. He loves being the center of attention so much that it would make Darcy happy to be the only child in the family. He loves to run around and play, so Darcy would do well in a home with a fenced yard. Darcy is completely house trained-he house trained himself within just a few days. Darcy is getting along fine with the other greyhounds at the prison, but seems to have too much chase instinct to be good with cats or very small dogs. He is fine with medium size (30 lbs.) or larger dogs, but would probably be best as an only dog. He tends to want to be the "alpha" dog in his pack so he will need a home with an experienced owner who will be his "pack leader". Darcy rides fine in a car, van, or SUV, He is a larger greyhound boy at 78 lbs. and is in excellent condition. When he graduates on August 9, Darcy will know the following commands: sit, lie down, stay, heel, come on recall, go to place (to his bed or mat), and will be able to go up and down stairs. He will also be able to pass the AKC's Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) test and can be certified as a therapy dog. The "Hardee Hero Hounds" have already made a huge difference in the lives of the inmates and staff just by their calm and loving presence. In return, they get lots of love and attention. If you adopt a prison-trained greyhound, you will not only get a well-trained family companion,but you will help us to continue this important work. During his time as a professional athlete, Darcy competed in 118 races, all at Derby Lane Greyhound Track in St. Petersburg. He won 16 times and was rated as a "Grade A" greyhound, meaning that he was one of the fastest dogs at the track. Darcy raced from May xxxx until October, xxxx. As with most racing greyhounds, he eventually lost a little speed, and was retired from racing. Fortunately for Darcy, he comes from an excellent kennel, and has been well taken care of his entire life.
Darcy's $375 adoption fee includes his neuter, teeth cleaning, all vaccines, Bordetella (to protect against kennel cough), leash and collar, adoption guide, BAGA tag, lots of training, and transportation to the prison facility. Your adoption donation helps us to defray some of the veterinary and care costs we have incurred for Darcy and will help us to continue our work on behalf of the greyhounds. Darcy will graduate and be available for adoption on August 9.
